What is Typhoid Fever?
Typhoid Fever is an illness you get from Salmonella typhi bacteria that is mostly transmitted through contaminated food and water. Transmission risk increases when there is not adequate sanitation, reduced access to safe water, and when there is poor hygiene among food handlers.
Symptoms of Typhoid Fever
Symptoms of Typhoid Fever may include:
- High Fever
- Stomach Pain
- Muscle Aches
- Chills
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea or Constipation
- Headache
- "Rose Spots" Rash
Who Should Receive the Typhoid Fever Vaccine?
People traveling or moving to Africa, Asia (greatest risk for infection is in South Asia), and Latin America.
Why should I Get A Typhoid Fever Vaccine?
Vaccination is the absolute best way to prevent infection. Typhoid is becoming resistant to antibiotic treatment (antibiotics are not working to treat the infection). Safe water and proper sanitation may be limited in some countries.

Typhim Vi is an injectable non-live typhoid vaccine that provides protection for up to 2 years.
