School Health

The School Health program supports students, families, and educators by providing health services, education, and screenings that promote healthy school communities.

What does this program do?

School Health nurses meet annually with each school to review and establish services based on the needs of students and staff. These services may include:

  • Health Promotion: Vaccination reminders, immunization clinics, and outreach for students and employees
  • Education: Classes such as maturation education, reproductive health, handwashing, and other health topics
  • Screening Services: Vision and scoliosis screenings with referrals for further evaluation when needed

Participation in clinics and classes is tracked to support reporting and help guide future services.

How does this program benefit individuals and communities?

School Health services and education are provided to both students and educators, including those who may not otherwise have access to regular healthcare.

These services help keep communities healthy by promoting prevention, increasing awareness, and supporting early detection of health concerns.

What is most important for people to understand?

School-based health services are both important and convenient. They provide students and staff with access to screenings, vaccinations, and health education that support long-term wellness and disease prevention.

What would happen without this program?

  • Fewer students would receive early detection through vision and scoliosis screenings
  • Communities would have fewer reminders and opportunities for vaccinations
  • Students and families may miss important health education and prevention resources
